Tysley Locomotive Works GWR Weekend

The weekend of the 24th and 25th of October a Special weekend at Tysley Locomotive Works when they played host to two famous Great Western Railway locomotives. They were a King class locomotive ‘King George V’ and a city class locomotive the ‘City of Truro’, both were on there way from the National collection in York to take part in the Swindon Festival. They are both to be exchanged with GWR Star class locomotive ‘Lode Star’ and the GWR Railcar.

Under The Bench – Part II

PAINTING & COMPLETION

Progress constructing the Barrett kits for the Midland 2P and GW Grange had progressed well and it was time to consider painting the models.

Recently, with tears in his eyes, a friend of mine showed me the twisted remains of an ‘0’ Gauge Milk Wagon.  The plastic kit had been beautifully made, and the primer sprayed on.  The top coat had been applied and was not compatible with the primer coat resulting in a poor paint finish.  Undeterred he attempted to remove the offending coat with paint stripper.  It removed the paint but attacked the plastic with disastrous results.  It literally melted before his very eyes!

(A Beginner’s Guide to starting in Gauge 1 Live Steam)

This article will, I hope, be a source of encouragement to all those who harbour a desire to have and build a live steam engine, but perhaps like me, lack the appropriate skills and equipment.

Beneath every bench is an unfinished project!  Across the country there must be hundreds of incomplete kits and projects, started with every good intention, but for one reason or another lay dormant, more often than not, never to be finished.  I am no exception, and this article is a salutary reminder of starting something that is maybe too ambitious or lack the necessary skills required.  It will I hope have a happy ending.
